Our local independent businesses provide much more than just good prices:

Better Service
Local owners and employees really know their businesses and their customers — and can offer you more personalized service and relevant advice.

Superior Quality
Many locally owned independents provide higher-quality products and services to you than the average national chain business.

Unique Choices
Independent local businesses bring their own creativity to their businesses — offering selections you won’t find elsewhere.

Real Commitment
As residents and fellow St. Louisans, local independent business owners have a genuine vested interest in your community's schools, our local environment, and other qualities of life.

Local Character
Local independents help create the many distinctive neighborhoods St. Louis is known for. Buying from your locals helps preserve the St. Louis area's unique culture and prevents it from becoming just another generic Anytown.

Our City and County local independents are just a click away.

Our members are local independents who’ve taken a stand to help spread the word about locals, by joining the BUILD St. Louis business alliance. Please patronize their businesses – and refer friends and family to them, as well.

Blue Skies Recycling | BlueSkiesRecycling.com
636 532 BLUE (2583) | 1734 Clarkson Rd, Suite 222, in Chesterfield (63027) Map
Founded in March of 2010, we’re the first St. Louis-based company to offer a "valet" food-waste recycling program. Restaurants and companies that participate in our “valet” food recycling collection program, place their food waste and other organic waste in yellow color-coded bins that are typically located in the kitchen/food preparation areas. Once the bins are loaded, we exchange them with clean, sterilized totes while the loaded containers are transported to a fully permitted composting facility. Carts for glass and paper are also color coded and marked. No matter what your recycling needs are, we can design a customized recycling plan for your restaurant or company that fits your needs.

Flowers to the People | FlowersToThePeople.biz
314 762 0422 | 2317 Cherokee St in Cherokee Antique Row district (63118) Map
We are an eco-centric florist, dedicated to reducing consumer impact. Depending on the season, our flowers are purchased from local growers or shipped direct from California. In both cases the use of fungicides and pesticides is closely regulated, as is water consumption. This is also more efficient in terms of fuel and freshness, as over 75% of flowers bought in this country are flown in from South America. Even a small floral boutique produces incredible amounts of organic waste, and at Flowers to the People every stem and leaf is composted. We also re-purpose all packaging material, and take great care to conserve water and energy. So stop feeling guilty about your love of fresh flowers — shop sustainably, and shop locally!

Verde Kids | VerdeSTL.com
314 962 KIDS (5437) | 27 S. Old Orchard Ave in Webster Groves (63119) Map
Founded in 2010, we are St. Louis’ first eco-minded children’s store. We offer clothes, toys, and gifts that are made with the future needs of the Earth and everyday needs of children in mind. Why did we name our store Verde? Because “Verde” means GREEN! We’re all hearing more about being green these days. At Verde Kids, being green means: organic baby and children’s clothes, toys made of renewable materials, locally made laundry soap, and handmade, unique jewelry. We not only consider how a product is made, but also where it is made, who makes it, and how it far it has to be shipped. Call it what you like — sustainable, earth-friendly, eco-friendly, or green — that’s what Verde is all about!
